We are offering virtual appointments using Zoom for Healthcare for all new patient consultations and existing patient follow-ups that do not require an in-person assessment. This is a secure video conferencing system that allows you to connect with a doctor at the Helmcken Pain Clinic using your home computer, tablet, or smartphone. Please click here for more information about Zoom for Healthcare.
Who is eligible?
Virtual appointments are only offered for patients who have been referred to the Helmcken Pain Clinic by their physician and have been contacted by our clinic to set up an appointment. We can also set up virtual appointments for existing patients for follow-up appointments at their request. Please note that not all issues can be adequately addressed in virtual appointments. If we need to examine you then you will need an office appointment.
There are two ways to perform virtual appointments: (1) video conference and (2) telephone. Video is preferable for new patient consultations.
Phone appointments
For phone appointments please advise our MOA that you would like a phone appointment and the doctor will phone you at the appropriate scheduled time.
Video appointments
STEP 1: How do I arrange a video appointment?
We must have your email address and mobile phone number. We also require you to complete a new patient intake questionnaire before the virtual appointment. At this time we are only offering virtual appointments during normal office hours.
STEP 2: I have a video appointment scheduled, now what?
1. You will be emailed a unique link and password for use on Zoom.us You can use your home computer, smartphone, or tablet to access this link.
Your device must have an operational camera and microphone and a stable internet connection. Ensure your internet browser software is up-to-date, and your internet connection is stable. It is best if you use a wired connection or keep your computer very close to your wifi access point.
2. Click on the link a few minutes before your scheduled appointment time. This will bring you to the doctor’s waiting room on Zoom.us
4. Once the doctor is ready to see you they will initiate the video conference. Just like in-office, depending on the complexity of the patients ahead of you, your appointment start time may be delayed.
